Modeling and Developing Actor Database Applications

Actor databases are a new trend in database research that combines the actor model with database system concepts and techniques. It is speculated that this combination of features in actor database systems can turn out to be particularly useful for modern data-driven applications demanding stateful computations along with interactive response times. Examples of these types of applications include location-sensitive mobile applications, Internet-of-Things (IoT) services, and computer games, among others. Given the societal value and promise of these emerging applications, it is desirable to leverage software infrastructures such as actor database systems to increase developer productivity as well as application runtime efficiency and scalability. However, there is a dearth of work on modeling and supporting the development of actor database applications. The goal of this project is to jointly explore the new paradigm of actor database systems and investigate possible solutions to the gap in modeling and development support for actor database applications This project has 2 coordinators - in Denmark, Marcos Antonio Vaz Salles; in Brazil, Claudia Bauzer Medeiros.
